Buddha Dordenma is a massive golden statue located in Thimphu, Bhutan, overlooking the southern entrance to the Thimphu Valley. Standing at 51.5 meters (169 feet), it is one of the largest Buddha statues in the world. The statue sits atop a hill called Kuenselphodrang, offering panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains, making it both a spiritual and scenic landmark.
Constructed in 2008 to celebrate Bhutan’s 60th anniversary of the fourth king’s reign, Buddha Dordenma houses over 125,000 smaller Buddha statues inside, symbolising peace and happiness for the world. The statue is made of bronze and gilded in gold, reflecting Bhutan’s rich Buddhist traditions and artistry.
